It's no longer unusual to see UFC stars in blue chip beer commercials. It's also not unusual to hear about UFC stars getting behind the wheel of a car after they've had a few too many drinks at the bar. UFC champion, Jon "Bones" Jones is dealing with this uncomfortable situation after crashing his car into a telephone pole and getting arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). Funny beer commercials, Not so funny DUI A couple of days ago, when I first saw UFC Champion, Anderson Silva, in his new Budweiser commercial along with Sensei Steven Segal, UFC ring announcer, Bruce Buffer (as the piano man) and MMA referee, Dan Miragliotta as the bartender, I laughed and enjoyed the fun. Budweiser Apresenta: (Budweiser Presents The Great Preparation HD) video It made me do a search to see if Chael Sonnen had some kind of comparable video--much to my surprise, he does. UFC 136: The Most Interesting Man Returns video That commercial also made me laugh. I kind of sobered up (from laughing) when I heard that UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones had a car accident in the early hours of Saturday morning, May 19, 2012. Rolling with the punches takes on new meaning when you wrap your Bentley around a pole and get arrested for drunk driving. DUI arrests and UFC Fighters UFC president, Dana White made a video blog showing footage from the Bud Light commercial that he shot with Jon Jones for UFC 130. Dana White UFC 130 Video blog day 2 (it's Dana, so beware -- eff bomb warning) video News reports say that Jones totaled his car. From the sound of things, he's lucky to be alive. Charles "Mask" Lewis, Jr., wasn't so lucky when his Ferrari collided with a Porsche before hitting a pole. Ross Pearson, The Ultimate Fighter, Season 9 winner, was also arrested recently for a DUI. Dana said that everybody who has ever had an alcoholic beverage has gotten behind the wheel of a car when they probably shouldn't have. He has no intention of inflicting further punishment probably because the guy is in enough trouble as it is. Dana White "We all make mistakes, it's how you handle yourself after" video Nobody's Perfect, Especially Role Models Reality check. When an image gets shattered, it's hard to put the pieces back together again. In the back of my mind, I can hear former UFC champion, Rashad Evans, saying that Jon Jones is fake, etc. Well, it looks like Bones Jones is just as fallible as the rest of the human population. Now, he's in a position to talk about life before the DUI and life after the DUI. Will it affect his fighting or his standing with his peers or his boss in the UFC? I don't think so. But, the UFC chiefs will have to sort out what they think the fallout will be for the UFC sponsorship of Jon Jones. Will fans pull away from him because he crashed his car into a pole? Probably not. But fans will definitely listen to what Bones says with a sharper ear from now on.
